June 2025 - Listen Now 🅱️ Sweating, Atomising

Oi! from South East London,

We hope you're having a good month despite the Horrors. Our latest Voices show is now online to listen back to, and this time around it's sixty minutes of Pure Motlash to soundtrack summer kicking the door down. Vic's been on her holidays drinking banned beverages, but she'll be back before you know it!

B: Figured I'd play to accompany the surroundings - the liminal retail sheds that surround Voices HQ were buzzing, the weather was glorious, it had been a weekend of shorts and seeing mates so why not play a bit of jangle, a bit of dub and Half Man Half Biscuit? You can tell that Vic is the DJ-master from some of the track transitions, but there's a lot of gold in this episode.

Of note: played 'New Town Dub' by Neutrals, a brilliant example of ex-provincial post punk, who have put out some surrounding material from last year's New Town Dream LP. Has Voices ever had John Major's voice played on its stream? If you're a listener to the Three Bean Salad podcast it might have reminded you of the Thatcher Chill Zone, and perhaps that would also cause your nearest and dearest to wake up in a cold sweat too.

May 2025 🆙 Dubstep and Doncaster Road

Oi! from South East London,

Sun’s out, time for three months of mania. First of all, thanks for bearing with our new home for this newsletter. We’re fine tuning things, so give us a little bit to get everything looking as shiny as it did on S*******.

First thing’s first! New show. Last weekend we reappeared on Voices. We’re back next month.

V: Decidedly more amped up than last month, mostly as I had slept more than two hours and spent all day at my niece-in-law’s third birthday. Nothing to induce some hyperactivity like being surrounded by your in-laws and 10 kids with a bubble machine.

Girls Hate The State b/w Guys Also Hate The State

Oi! From South East London,

Normal flow has resumed and we are cooking with gas. Just to be clear, categorically not any kind of gas that could be used in some kind of extremely metaphorical Guy Fawkes situation. That would be crazy. Anyway!

First port of call: our debut show for Voices Radio is up online NOW to listen to. Highlights include one of the best Top of The Pops mime performances of all time, unreleased wonked-out dubs sent to Vic at an 8am afters, John Waters surf stompers and some private edits of blown-out acid insanity.

Cleaning House

Oi! From South East London,

Hi! How are you all? Been a moment. We’ve been quiet shortly after promising a bunch of stuff and we have big news! None of that stuff happened. The UK continues to spin around the 20 seconds of sun it gets a day.

The main news is that our radio show’s home for the past three years, Balamii, recently moved to cease its continuous radio broadcast. We found out on what we can best describe as “short notice”, and the news fell basically as we expected to return in January – so we’ve had to spend the past few months working out how to keep on rocking in the free world. And so:

Push The Button and Let Me Know

Oi! From South East London,

So there was a promise we would do a December self-production while Balamii is on a semi-administrative break, and in all honest we’re too tired and busy. Did you see November? Cut us some slack. We had a two-pronged Christmas AGM this week, first seeing the restoration of Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence on Tuesday, and then Hard Skin’s Christmas show on Friday. At one point during the latter approached two friends of ours in the smoking area and produced a full tobacco pouch that contained nothing but mealworms. Punk will literally never die.

Balamii have been putting their energy into doing a run of cypher events in Peckham, and if you’re local you should support those in the meantime. From us, just a Substack this month - but a big boy one. Dig in!

Screaming In A Shopping Centre

Hello dear readers,

Anything happening this week? You got that right! We are currently on “tour” (two gigs in the South West) in RUBBER. Come and see us if you are local to Falmouth or Bristol this weekend and enjoy Idiot Music. Most importantly, we approach this month’s highlight of ATTEMPTING SOMETHING, a 3-day fest of Varied Music by Another Subculture – Ben’s venture spending over a decade risographing the corners of freaky DIY in London (+ Glanford/Grimsby/the entire radio internet). You might have seen it around.

V: I heard the very first Another Subculture tape zine in 2013 sitting in my old kitchen, listening to Matt from Pissed Jeans applying his bizarre pen to clothes writing, or friends talk about this really cool upcoming co-op venue. I remember being struck by how good the concept was. It proved the thing I was doing lived. Shortly after, I would meet an extremely calm man in a death trap cafe that didn’t serve food – beginning a miles-long scroll of stupidity that continues today.

We have toured together, podcasted together (do not look these up), guested on NTS several years before either of us knew how to use any electronic music technology at all, and once DJed Ormside Projects to a room full of sunflowers (while yelling “fuck Lendlease” into a microphone that was piped into the Elephant and Castle Shopping Centre). So this month, we talk all about it! It’s all Ben, all the time, baby.

BYO Sheet Metal

Hi hi hi,

Busy October. Isn’t the weather funny, etc. etc.

We handed to reins this month to EARWORM who helped us continue to populate the “noise” genre tag on Balamii’s website (no longer just various episodes of our show!). More on that below. Let’s get into this bagel.

It's Been A Rowdy Hour b/w Smoking Indoors Is Back

Hello everyone,

Once again, a show. Starts with a rave brain navigating their long lost Gran Turismo saves and only goes up from there. We have some events and some thoughts.

I'm Wes Streeting, and Welcome to Jackass

What the fuck is up Denny’s,

And HELLO to our new batch of subscribers, listeners and members of our new clandestine digital anarcho-syndicalist cell (Yvette Cooper if you read this this is a joke). Thank you for getting into this and subscribing. A few of you also paid? Truly insane people, also our people.

The election isn’t a real and no one can tell us otherwise, so let’s move on.

An Introduction to the Repetitive Strain Newswire

Hello international PLUR network,

Welcome to The United Federated Forces of the Repetitive Strain Newswire Listener Crew. We promise one email a month only, which will include our monthly radio show and other nefarious audio referencing. This was born of deleting our Twitter Actually I Think It’s Called X Now account and a desire to get a little more up close and personal about things. Generally it’ll be the show and one or two other things. Short sharp shocks only.
