Oi! from South East London,
Apologies for the lateness this month. Moving house, finishing records, studying, life - all conspiring to mean this is slow out the gates. One of our wonkier shows this month! Old favourites, friends, new favourites, RS “classics” all coming out. Very little deference to theme as both of us were a little life-frazzled this month, other than Vic’s sudden turn into romantic 170bpm footwork. What could be more classically RS than that? Back in a few weeks!

Listening back to this month's show and, apart from enjoying how we barrel into the show like we've just woken up, I did decide to just play The Hits, didn't I? If we had a more regular slot then you would be able to bet on me playing Colourbox or something from Dancing for Mental Health on a more regular basis, but it's sometimes worth saving your favourites for a special occasion.
Now I'm imagining what we'd be like as a breakfast host, and glad we aren't (just yet).
I included the opening salvo from Tomcat's N.W.O.A.H.C. demo, not least because I insist on keeping up with what's happening in the Australian underground, and because it had been a week of looking up the most irresistable intro tracks to hardcore tapes for inspiration. Sometimes you just want a riff that just stirs that crowd round your little finger, and this is the closest to, say, the Glue demo I've heard in a minute.
The recording of my social life continues: Daniel Kitson at the Stanley Arts, in a free flowing, Post-it note accompanied evaluation hour; good to see Middleman celebrate their hard work at the Young People Tavern last Saturday. The Long Good Friday’s title theme has been in my head all week, and suggestions for what me and my partner Elena call ‘LDCC-core’ videos are very welcome.
One more thing, to give you some hope for the young and also the Computer - the website for my folly has been added to the P-U-N-K webring, and I am thrilled that these are a thing once more. See, your MySpace-gleaned CSS skills were not in vain. Until next month!

Coming at you live from the 172 – First up: an overwhelmingly huge “happy bail” to Ola and all bailed members of the Filton 24! Hard to think of anything else that matters more, honestly.
I went to see Yellow Swans last week, in the penultimate time I will visit London’s Corsica Studios before it closes for [?] time. I have been going here for longer than I can remember, which in the grand scheme of Elephant and Castle’s complete flattening into a liminal zone feels totally insane. One day I may find the answer to the question of why their security confiscates your gum. Mysteries of the universe.
This show was one of those moments where things just bowl you over unexpectedly. One half of the duo, Gabriel Mindel Saloman, addressed his recently-public Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis almost immediately. The group broke the ice on this immediately and continuously, performing two 20m pieces that addressed it in different ways. Disability and chronic health issues are a big part of my life, so I hesitate to spin patronising “hmm so brave” stuff about this, but the open way it was presented made consider the “how and why” of doing things like flying 8,000 miles to play noise in a small DIY club when you’re sick. I left valuing things in my life differently.
The whole experience made me think of the people who love me, the people I’ve met through making art that most people scratch their heads at. I always think of that section in Instrument where Ian Mackaye is talking about wanting direct connection with the people you’re playing to. What’s the point of doing anything if there’s no potential to upend how people perceive their day to day on a rainy Wednesday?

Couple of quick Vanity Crystal bits, playing live for Sunday School with Kute this Friday! And going b2b with Marie Malarie for Karlie Marx’s fundraiser at Venue MOT in March! The bill for the latter is truly crazy!

Gabriel Mindel Saloman is currently fundraising his care, which you can donate to here.
Prior to Yellow Swans, aya DJed and played this 20m Klara Lewis piece. Amazing way to hear this for the first time. She also played the opening track of Jane Doe, which turns out I still know every drum fill of even though I haven’t really listened to Converge in about 10 years.
The Filton 24 still face some lesser charges, and their support fund is available here.
