Repetitive Strain on Balamii • August 2024

V: Very heavy one this month, slow trudging and evil metal dirge. Big feelings, big walls of sound. I played Storm And Stress after a completely stellar secret(?) set from Still House Plants two or three weeks ago sent me back to my loosest teen math-rock records.

I was thinking about why I, someone deeply allergic to the 2013 Surrey guitar shop guy vibe of 99% of math rock, have taken so hard to Still House Plants since Ben played them on the show. In both them and Storm & Stress there’s an intimacy to the presentation and a refusal to be showy. I love how this S&S record unfolds in no particular direction and just stumbles around.

In other news, I got a 12” which was jungle remixes of a Japanese rock guitarist who made a record called “No More Nukes Play The Guitar” and made multiple singles with a backing band called the Spank Your Juice.

B: The usual recurring themes from my selections - music for humid evenings, dredging through my increasingly chaotic iTunes library to remember noise bands I may have seen, and Slimelord, not least because friend of the show Creg Clarrrk had his head blown open by then at Supernormal last weekend.
